Janet is a dedicated nurse practitioner with a passion for preventive healthcare, fueled by a desire to contribute positively to the healthcare community. She appreciates the Harrison environment which supports her with more time to provide excellent, evidence-based, and patient-and-family centered care. She sees immense value in having time to help families understand the importance of disease prevention, keeping them engaged and informed to promote early detection, and providing each client with optimal management of any conditions that do arise. She finds great fulfillment in helping families navigate the complex healthcare system, educating them, and empowering them to take charge of their own health.
Janet trained at the University of Ottawa, completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005 followed by her Masters in Nursing in 2008. She went on to complete a Post-Masters Primary Health Care NP Diploma from McMaster University in 2011. Her career began as an ER Nurse and since then she has specialized in the care of families, particularly children, young adults, and parents. Janet has accumulated valuable experience in primary care settings in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. She is an Associate Professor with the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Nursing and serves as the Academic Lead for their Nurse Practitioner Program, further contributing to the advancement of healthcare practice and education.
A lifelong teacher and learner, she is continually expanding her knowledge and skills, completing the Can-Reach’s fellowship, Patient-Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care in 2022. She now also has a strong focus on mental health, developmental pediatrics, and caring for individuals with disabilities. Janet employs a strengths-based approach when working with her clients, drawing upon the unique strengths and resources of individuals to help them optimize their health outcomes.
Janet is an avid fan of the BlueJays, watching games whenever she can. Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, particularly in the Rocky Mountains where they can ski, hike and bike together.
