At Harrison Healthcare, we fully recognize that mental health issues are having an ever-increasing impact on our physical health, longevity, vitality and our overall feeling of well-being.
This is particularly troubling for children, teens and young adults when early emotional, cognitive and behavioral patterns can have a negative long-term effect on overall health. Mental health issues are the largest obstacle to effective therapeutic lifestyle change and physical disease prevention.
There is no scientific doubt about the mind-body connection and how our complex body systems interact with each other. That is why Harrison is focused on treating the whole person – body, mind and brain. Fortunately, many mental health issues can also be prevented, particularly when they are discovered early when treatment is most effective.
Mental health is priority in our signature programs, including Premier programs and the Comprehensive Health Assessment. Each Centre is staffed with highly trained professionals that are able to assess each client’s state of mental health, discover early indicators of concern and recommend specific interventions.
To assist the team, Harrison has developed an advanced, comprehensive Mental Health Assessment Tool (MHAT) that introduces a new level of precision to the definitive diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues. MHAT is also designed to provide a baseline for mental wellness and identify risk factors to assist with the prevention of disorders.
Approach to mental healthcare
Harrison recognizes that many of the best mental health professionals have established practices in the community. We have therefore adopted a “expert provider” approach to care. Our team focuses on the assessment of risk factors, definitive diagnosis and treatment planning. We then provide a valuable navigation service within our curated network of community professionals to ensure each individual receives the very best and most appropriate care. The Harrison team collaborates with these external providers to treat the “whole person”, thoughtfully coordinating physical and mental healthcare under a highly personalized plan.
Mental health assessment, treatment plan development, and the overall coordination of care is included in the fees for Harrison’s Premier programs, including Foundations and Harrison Kids. Therapies as an adjunct to any recommended medication, such as psychological counselling, are provided on a fee-for-service basis by the professionals in our mental healthcare network.
