Family Physician, Calgary

Dr. Bobbi-Jo Whitfield

Dr. Bobbi-Jo Whitfield appreciates having the time to get to know her patients on a deeper level. When she can hear their concerns in an unhurried manner and learn about their roadblocks, she is confident they can find solutions together. With a focus on prevention and engagement, Dr. Whitfield is highly motivated to help her clients achieve their health and wellness goals. She is excited to be part of a collaborative care team where each clinician is able to bring their expertise to the table and learn from each other.

Dr. Whitfield graduated from the University of Calgary Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She has additional training as a GP-Surgeon, also know as ESS, or enhanced surgical skills. A resourceful physician, she has over seven years’ experience working in rural communities in New Zealand and Northern Alberta where she had the time to get to know her patients and help them in the prevention and management of disease.

Dr. Whitfield’s passion lies in women’s health from puberty and fertility, to delivering babies, menopause, and beyond. She enjoys performing minor procedures such as removing lumps, endometrial biopsies, IUD placement. Her Harrison compassion shines bright after many years experience caring for vulnerable populations and in sensitive situations as a Palliative care consultant and in supporting the Justice Department in Alberta as rural medical examiner.

Dr. Whitfield enjoys contributing to the training and growth of the medical community. From 2012 – 2017 she was the Rural Program Director in Medicine Hat, and she is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor with University of Calgary’s department of Family Medicine. With strong clinical and teaching skills, she is an eager mentor to medical students and resident physicians, preparing them to manage their own practice with an evidence-based mindset.

Dr. Whitfield’s three teenagers and Labrador retriever keep her busy at home. She wishes she could find more time to travel the world so she could practice her Portuguese and German, and track down the alluring sloth, capybara, and platypus in their local environments!
