Ava Dickie’s experience caring for children and families in hospital settings has shaped how she approaches care, with a strong focus on supporting health beyond times of illness. She values getting to know clients and families over time and being able to focus on prevention, education, and shared decision-making. Ava also appreciates working alongside a multidisciplinary team, where different perspectives can come together to support each client’s individual needs and long-term health.
Ava completed her Bachelor of Arts at McGill University in 2014 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with distinction from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2018. She went on to complete her Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner at the University of British Columbia in 2026. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Ava spent eight years at BC Children’s Hospital, progressing from surgical nursing to emergency and trauma care and, later, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Caring for children with complex and critical health needs taught Ava the importance of looking beyond a diagnosis and understanding the broader factors that can affect a person’s health and well-being. This perspective continues to shape her approach to care and complements her clinical interests in paediatrics, women’s health, prenatal and postpartum care, and mental health.
Outside of work, Ava enjoys staying active through running and spending time outdoors, travelling whenever she gets the chance, and making the most of time with her husband and two daughters.
