Ultrasound Screening
Ultrasound is an imaging test that uses sound waves to create a picture of organs, tissues, and other structures inside the body. It can also show parts of the body in motion, such as a beating heart or blood flowing through vessels. Ultrasound can detect numerous abnormalities which may be indicative of disease. Unlike x-rays, an ultrasound does not require any radiation and is considered a safe, non-invasive test.
Harrison currently uses “point of care” ultrasound technology during routine care at our Alberta and BC centres, however as part of your personalized health assessment, a more comprehensive and radiologist-supervised screening ultrasound examination may be recommended.
Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) Scan
As part of an assessment at Harrison, your physician may recommend a DEXA scan. DEXA uses a high-precision type of X-ray (with an extremely low level of radiation) that can assess body composition in a convenient and non-invasive way to create a comprehensive report which includes your body fat percentage, fat mass and lean mass, resting metabolic rate and more. DEXA takes the guesswork out of establishing your baseline health and fitness level, supporting Harrison’s goals of optimizing your health and performance. It is considered the “gold standard” for assessing body composition.
A DEXA scan, when indicated, is coordinated for you as a client of the Premier program or with your Comprehensive Health Assessment. It is available onsite at our Toronto location.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Harrison has partnered with leading providers of full-body and focused MRI screening exams for the early detection of cancer and over 350 other medical conditions. Harrison recommends you consult with your clinical team about the benefits of these exams in the context of your personalized care plan and health risk profile.
