Family Physician, Vancouver

Dr. Alison MacMillan

Dr. Alison MacMillan is a compassionate and dedicated family physician who is motivated to provide preventive care. She firmly believes in partnering with her patients to achieve optimal health outcomes. She sees herself as a resource and ally to clients, eager to get to know their goals and concerns so she can support them with evidence-based information and guidance. She is wholly committed to personalizing her care planning to improve clients’ physical and emotional well-being.

Dr. MacMillan’s journey in the medical field started with a strong foundation in science and health. Prior to pursuing her BSc at the University of Prince Edward Island, she gained valuable experience as a medical lab assistant. Her enthusiasm for healthcare led her to pursue her medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean, where she graduated with honours. She went on to complete her post-doctoral training at St. Peter’s Family Medicine Residency in Olympia, Washington. In 2017, she became board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. MacMillan was an integral part of the neonatal resuscitation team at Centralia Hospital and worked as part of a call group consisting of fellow family doctors and pediatricians. She collaborated with her colleagues to care for new mother and baby duos, ensuring a smooth transition for newborns, and providing critical and compassionate care for newborns during potentially high-risk deliveries.

In 2020, Dr. MacMillan returned to Canada and became a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Since then, her focus has been on family care, particularly young families. In addition to prevention, obstetrics and family medicine, Dr. MacMillan also has a keen interest in obesity medicine and wilderness medicine.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. MacMillan practices what she preaches and leads an active lifestyle. She finds joy in running, snowboarding, hiking, and biking allowing her to connect with nature and recharge.
