Exercise Physiologist

Patric Gonçalves

Patric has a passion for improving patient well-being through evidence-based medicine and as part of a multidisciplinary team. His approach is rooted in a patient-centered philosophy supported by science. He empowers his clients to take an active role in their health by using exercise as a tool for prevention, rehabilitation, and overall optimization.

Patric graduated in 2017 with his Bachelor of Science degree from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil. Following an exchange at the University of Toronto, Patric was determined to move to Canada and went on to complete his Master of Science in Kinesiology at UBC in 2022. He has clinical and research experience in cardiovascular rehabilitation and exercise physiology, with a particular focus on the impacts of pollution during exercise on the cardiovascular system.

Patric considers himself privileged to have worked as a Respiratory Therapist in the ICUs of Brazil through the height of COVID-19. This challenging period instilled a deep sense of teamwork, resilience, and adaptability. His training included many diverse rehabilitation settings across the Brazilian healthcare system, from emergency rooms to home care, and together these experiences have inspired Patric to bring positivity and compassion to every client interaction as they face their challenges head on.

A true collaborator, learner, and educator, Patric credits working with exceptional leaders throughout his career as his inspiration for these important values as a clinical professional. He has been a Laboratory Instructor at Douglas College, nurturing the growth of aspiring healthcare professionals, and supported the research and writing of “Vascular Diseases for the Non-Specialist” published by Springer Nature with a multidisciplinary team.

Vancouver is the sixth city Patric has lived in, and he and his husband are eager to stay so they can enjoy the wide variety of activities available on the West coast. In winter you can find him ice skating or skiing and, in the summer, rollerblading, playing tennis, volleyball, or relaxing at the beach with friends.
