Practice Lead, Exercise Physiologist

J.P. Willner

J.P. is passionate about sharing the benefits of exercise and physical activity on overall health and well-being with clients and supporting them on their health journey. He is excited to be part of the Harrison team where he can collaborate and coordinate care plans with a passionate group of inter-disciplinary clinicians. He believes the diverse expertise together under one roof can support patient care on a more holistic level adding great value to patients. JP is excited to educate and promote active lifestyle with clients through individualized plans that suit each lifestyle and set of health goals.

J.P. graduated from Valdosta State University in Georgia, USA with a BSc in Exercise Physiology while competing in varsity baseball on scholarship. Following this, he completed an MSc in Rehabilitative Sciences at the University of Alberta. J.P. is accredited with his Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

J.P. has in-depth experience in cardiac rehabilitation working in collaborative care facilities in Regina, Edmonton, and Calgary. Exercise was medicine for many of his patients as he promoted realistic lifestyle change with patients following major cardiac events.  In addition to his own inter-collegiate experience, he has also worked as a strength and conditioning coach with youth and university students to optimize mobility and performance.

Exercise and physical activity have been a major part of J.P.’s life, which is why he enjoys sharing this passion so much. In his spare time, he plays many sports (baseball, basketball, hockey, squash, tennis) and enjoys more “casual” outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and skiing with his wife and two dogs.
