Carol is a Canadian Board-Certified Genetic Counsellor who specializes in the optimization of genetic testing to improve health outcomes. She brings deep expertise in clinical genetic counselling, helping families understand and adapt to genetic risk information. A strong proponent of increasing genetic literacy, Carol is dedicated to ensuring both clients and health care providers have the genetic knowledge and tools to be empowered with respect to their health and to stay abreast of the newest advances. Her clinical and research experience focuses on hereditary cancer and the use of genetic testing for personalized cancer treatment in patients and cancer prevention in their families.
Carol earned her Bachelor of Science from University of British Columbia in 1999, and her Master of Science in Genetic Counselling from McGill University in 2002. She is passionate about sharing genetic knowledge and has been an invited speaker at both national and international genetics conferences. Carol teaches in UBC’s Faculty of Medicine and recently co-developed curriculum for a novel online graduate level course on emerging genomic topics. She is a Past President of the Board of the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors and a current member of the national certification board, which is committed to assessing and maintaining competencies, knowledge and skills of Genetic Counsellors in Canada.
In her spare time, Carol enjoys cross-country skiing and reading, and always appreciates a quality espresso!
